These types of figures usually represent important ancestors and are often labeled as “Hampatong” or just “Patong,” which more or less means wood statue.
These look like the style of the Ngaju Dayak or related Ot Danum Dayak of Central Kalimantan (or yet another related sub-group of which there are many).  They
are usually carved of ironwood and placed in front of the village or cemetery.  They are meant to protect the space from malevolent forces and to show the high
status of the village. Animal figures carved with figures are meant to enhance the power and status of the sculpture.
